Good product, great audio quality July 13, 2010 Simone Galleni In MP3 player era could sound odd using minidisc player/recorder and 1GB only minidisc.
I've had Apple iPod, Creative Zen X-Fi and other players and I've always been unsatisfied by the audio quality of these players: it is true that you can even play PCM audio on these stuff, but when it comes to determine the audio quality the problem is quite often not on the "level" or the "type" of the compression used but on the final amplification stage and the DSP used by the player.
I used an old MZ-R70 many years ago and it has been for chance that I got it in my hand again after so many years; old ATRAC (so, worst than recent MP3s), old apparel - but the final quality is simply better. Finer grain, incredible dynamic range. So, I decided to get this last minidisc by Sony and I haven't been disappointed.
Audio quality is far better then other MP3 player I've had and if you organize your audio (MP3, ATRAC or PCM) on a bunch of disc the 1GB size of the Hi-MD is not a big limitation - actually, in the end, it is easier for me just to switch disc rather then replace MP3s on my 8GB player.
It's ok to get a small, easy MP3 player to connect to the PC. drag 'n' drop and go - but I'd give this object a try if "better audio quality" is what you are searching for.
Also, as a musician, I appreciate the fact I can easily record audio with PCM quality on it - and it has a line in optical and a std line out.
sony portable md recorder/mz-rh1 July 2, 2010 andy wilson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well what can i say about this cracking little md.This is a smashing little unit, beauifully finished in black;sony know a thing or two about music on the move.I looked at several sites before Amazon;I even tired the sony centre here in Belfast, but to no avil.Anyway this unit takes the 1gb md,that are availble ,plus std mds of course. You can of course record over 10 hours of music on one standed md.great stuff. However what about the most important thing, when talking of mosic on the move..the sound quailty.in one word superb.Just what a portable REAL music unit should do.This unit takes the md to new highs,it records in PCM,ie CD quailty. You also get headphones and a cd rom disc to use thru your pc,i dont, but im not going to give it a negtive mark for the cd rom disc. This will be sonys swansong with mini disc. This format goes out in style.Ipods are crap in the sound quailty stakes verses this little unit.Buy one without delay;you would not go back to this i pod crap after hearing this little baby.Andy.
Pretty good kit but not perfect April 9, 2010 J. W. Treadaway (Kent) I have owned minidisks for a number of years now. This one's probably the best except for the rubbish battery and battery life, and the inability to charge it up with a little widget that screws onto it (like my old one). I now have a small metal cylinder with a space for one AA battery and a lead for charging phones that I plug into the USB on the device which - though a little ugly (looking like a spare dongle hanging out tof the back) does gibe me battery flexibility.
Oh yes - the remote's a bit pants too.
Sony minidisk recorder March 18, 2010 N. G. Wightwick (Wrexham, N.Wales, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The minidisk recorder is a well made piece of work and of the standard one expects from Sony. However the controls are very small and fiddly for adult fingers to operate. The display is very good as is the Li-ion battery life The price was slightly less than a similar product bought more than 11 years ago so good value.
Sony MZRH1B Hi-MD digital audio player and recorder March 6, 2010 Mr. H. Hall 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was very wary about getting a new mindisc player because of my difficulties using a Panasonic one that I purchased 9 years ago. I have been pleasantly surprised with Sony's latest. I principally bought the player to record my trumpet playing using a Sony microphone that I had been 3 years ago. The old Panasonic minidisc produced terrible qualities of recording with significant sound distortion.
I have been using the linear PCM recording mode, which has produced fantastic results. I have also made recordings from YouTube by plugging in the player to my computer. I am extremely impressed. One does not have to have 1GB Hi-MD discs to enjoy Hi-MD. I have been using 80min MD's, which allow aopproximately 28 mins recording in the linear PCM recording mode.
The battery life is also very impressive. If one is serious about recording, I would highly recommend this minidisc player.
