Sony BDPS370 Blu-Ray Player September 5, 2010 NoGGy I purchased this Blu-ray a couple of days ago, after I purchased a Sony Bravia 40" TV. All I can say is this is "Top Quality!". I have a fairly cheap HDMI cable, but as many of us know purchasing a £60 HDMI cable ain't going to make a huge difference, unless your getting double shielded 24 carrot gold tipping.
The Blu-ray is really quite, it comes with USB and Wireless capabilities.
However to note: You will require your external HDD or USB device to be in FAT32 which gives you a 4GB file limit, so you cannot have HD movies on your external drive, as they are usually around 7-8GB. And...You need a compatible external wireless device.
I have purchased a couple of Blu-Rays and played them and they look AMAZING!! It's definitely worth it for [...]. I really love Sony products as they are known for using high quality parts! And this certainly shows in this blu-ray player!

Sony BDP-S370, as a PC media player September 2, 2010 Dave (Wales, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Had this player for a week now, and all seems fine with it, the instruction manual is very limited so I'm taking a point off for the lack of an in-depth one. The players navigation menu system is easy to use, and seems to be based on the sony ps3 system. Remote control is rather more chunky than I expected, in comparison to other sony products. The player itself is a shiny black, with an extended shelf at the bottom of the front, which houses the manual control buttons (very small buttons!).
When in use I found the player to be extremely quiet, apart from when its first powered up, in fact its hard to tell its running at times. nice selection of connections for a modern setup, no scart at all though for people with older model tv's.
setting it up with my modem-router was relatively easy, it detected a firmware update and automatically downloaded it, after which bbc iplayer became available, as well as a selection of other streaming website content. Streaming quality is dependant on your broadband speed, and network congestion, so don't expect HD quality at peak times with slower connections lol.
Now for DLNA support, which was one of the major reasons I purchased this player as I wanted to play the content on my PC. While DLNA support should make things easy, its a bit hit and miss currently, as can be found out if you try and google setting it up on a DLNA home network.
The simplest way is to use Windows Media Player 11 or higher, and set the folders you want to access to share with your BDP-S370, this should allow your player to access the folders contents via its menu system so you can play music, videos and look at photos. Video file playback will be dependant on what video codec was used to encode the files, there is a list on the sony products page of what the player should play, I've only tested it with avi files so far but haven't had any problems apart from one, which may well be encoded with a non-standard codec. If your player can't see your PC's folders (bear in mind they take a few minutes to become available), then try temporarily disabling your PC firewall to see if that is blocking access. I have to admit that i'm still trying to reconfigure my firewall to allow the player access to my PC contents, and so far have spent a few hours banging my head on the desk in frustration. Temporarily disabling my PC firewall, allows the player to work without any problems!
If you don't want to use Windows Media Player, there are a number of free DLNA software servers available on the internet, and quite a few more you can buy. Many of these offer a free trial period, read their reviews before trying them to see what functions they cover. I can tell you that I tried the tversity server, but couldn't get the player to work with it at all.
well pleased! although............. September 1, 2010 peterparker I find the front of the machine rather odd with a silly dust cayching lip! but not to worry it is working well it does not turn my TV over, but that could be my Toshiba TV! otherwise Well pleased! picture quality is outstanding with vivid colours and a good range of features to boot!
Sony BlueRay Player September 1, 2010 Royst 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The only reason I bought this particular product was to update from my PS3 to a proper blueray player. I checked out reviews on the product and made my choice on that basis. I can say that I wasn't disapointed in my choice and that the player is brilliant and worth the money. Picture, sound is out of this world and adds so much more depth to watching a movie.... If you want a budget player with the top end specs then this is your one.....
nice to have one August 31, 2010 seb absolutely recommended, small and quiet piece of quality ,works with 46 inches Samsung LED without problems.
