Absolutely Stunning July 26, 2010 Chris I bought this to replace my old Memorex amp which finally gave up the ghost after 25 years of faithful service. The Pioneer was the only amp I found that met my requirements of a headphone socket, the ability to drive two sets of speakers independently (A, B or A+B) with the added bonus to use my graphic equaliser on its own circuit. The only problem was that the amp was supplied with a European-style power cable, however I had a suitable replacement and soon had it cabled-up ... and boy was I pleasantly surprised by the sound quality: My test pieces include Dark Side of The Moon and John Barry - The Collection - 40 Years of Film Music John Barry - The Collection - 40 Years of Film Music The soundstage is expansive and detailed, the music powerful yet simultaneously having the nuances and subtleties picked out. In short it has been a pleasure to rediscover my music collection with this amp.
Fits the bill almost perfectly May 28, 2010 Steve (Cambridge, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Easy to setup and use. The range of source connectors is comprehensive and it drives two pairs of speakers independently (A, B, or A+B) which was not clear from the blurb or even the manual as well as a headphone socket. The remote works nicely and links into an existing compatible Pioneer tuner with no problems. Plenty of oomph to drive a pair of Kef Cartlton IIIs to orchestral listening levels with no shortage of headroom. Nicely detailed, well balanced sound for the price, especially with the "direct" routing engaged. The direct setting, even with all other settings in the neutral position, makes quite a difference (for the better, IMO) in the sound clarity. The only niggle for me is that it's not possible to record one source while listening to another which was an attractive and much used feature of the older Pioneer amp it was replacing in my setup. That's not quite enough to justify withholding a star because I was aware of the limitation before purchase.
Great budget entry level amp January 2, 2010 Douglas Stephens (Hertfordshire, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Bought this to replace my trusted old Sansui amp of 25 years service which finally gave up the ghost. This is a very good entry level budget amp. I don't listen to enough music these days to justify spending mega bucks on a more up market piece of kit but this does the job nicely when playing CD or an MP3 source through my Mourdant Short speakers. Struggles a little when pushed hard and lacks the clarity of my old Sansui but in equivalent price terms the Sansui was probably 3-4x the cost. Build quality seems good. Has all the functionality I need and having a remote is a big plus.
Great Amp December 31, 2009 J. Rolfe (UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this amplifier just before Xmas, and I have to say that I think it is a great bit of kit. I am no HiFi buff but I know what I like the sound of. This amp sounds great with my speakers and seems to be a really well made and solid unit. It was very easy to set up, but I did notice that I had to strip the speaker wires to connect them up as the standard jack plugs did not fit. (not sure if that is normal or not as my last amp was about 20 years old... so things may have moved on since then!!)
Absolutely brilliant December 28, 2009 R. Bagley (Nottinghamshire, UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
How good? Marvellous and looks good too.
Ok it's not cheap but if you want to listen to good music with the best clarity then get this, get it now.
Together with my Wharfedale speakers and Pioneer CD player - beautiful music.
