There may be difficulty to receive Freeview TV signal by the included portable antenna in some areas where the signal is not sufficiently strong. This is due to that the Freeview service in the UK is not fully operating yet. The reception will be improving along with the progress of Digital Switchover Program. A signal amplifier or booster may improve reception in regions where the signal is marginally strong. (please note that reception capability may also be affected by various factors such as proximity to Freeview TV/digital radio transmitters, tall building structures, thick walls, ceilings & etc.). A rooftop TV aerial may be required to receive Freeview in regions where the signal is insufficient for a portable antenna.

not the best PC option March 16, 2010 D. G. Walker (Newport, South Wales) Provides a decent enough picture but the menus are quite complex to navigate and the big problem with this item is that it doesn't allow 'picture-in-picture'(PIP) functionality. If you just want to watch TV on a PC it's not a bad option but if you want to have background TV on while you are doing something else on your PC, then I should look elsewhere!
Very, very good but........ March 12, 2010 Mr Steve Lincolne (Brentwood, Essex United Kingdom) I took delivery of the unit a week back or so back & have finally, today, got it working as I had hoped. I hasten to add that this has got nothing to do with the actual functioning of the product, but more to do with the esoterica of wiring it up correctly.
I hope this helps:
1.) Unless you live on top of the Crystal Place transmitter, the only use you will find for the supplied aerial is as a skewer for toasting marshmallows with! You WILL need to connect this up to a roof top aerial point or possibly a much higher powered portable aerial than that supplied.
2.) Do NOT run the product from anything other than you PC's high speed ports. Hubs were a big no, no for me with no picture being visible at all!
3.) Use ONLY top quality digital coax cabling. I also had to by a new signal booster as the 15 year old one I did have was not up to the job. Try to keep the run as short as possible.
Strangely the big problem I had was with ITV1 & 2, but having today put all the above in place I have a 5 bar rating on both channels.
All that said & done, the product is GREAT!!! Exactly what I wanted for a breakfast bar PC to watch the telly & have computer facilities all within the same compact unit. The bundled software is great & apparently worth £50-£60 on it's own, all be it that you seem unable to get support for it.
August's (manufactures) support was OK. Phone answered within a couple of rings, but a slightly jaded Chinese lady who spoke the best English I have ever heard, including English people!!! was although helpful, not that useful.
August DVB-T205 TV stick March 2, 2010 W. C. Mair 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The quality of the picture on this TV stick is not as good as the one I used to run on my Windows XP PC. It is only for occasional use on my PC which is now running Windows 7 so it is good enough for what I want.
laptop tv February 26, 2010 mobygocrespo (scotland) Very pleased with this, great sound and picture on my laptop using Vista, straightforward set-up using instructions provided, you're more on your own once installed but the controls are largely common sense. The plug in receiver is conveniently small (memory stick size) so might be easily lost and the remote is also small but easy to use.
As the instructions recommend, I first tuned in using an external aerial at home and got perfect reception watching a great picture in perfect sync. with cable on my tv.
Work was a different matter, the transmitter supplying that area is the same as home (I'm not sure if that might be an issue for tuning when moving around the country) but the supplied aerial is useless (hence four stars). It's not the best reception area so I already had an aerial with a booster which works ok although varies between channels and does require some shifting around. The picture is very good although on lower or fluctuating signals sometimes freezes although strangely the sound doesn't. This isn't the fault of the receiver and you can check the signal in your area via the freeview site http://www.ukfree.tv/txlist.php which will tell you the signal quality and if there are faults.
Excellent product, better than expected. February 21, 2010 Mr. P. Morris (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a little concerned that I would have problems having read some other reviews. I needn't have worried and I wonder what other buyers have been doing to get poor results. I wanted this to be able to watch TV while working at the computer.
The device is very small and the installation manual is actually very good for such a product. My advice - READ THE MANUAL and note what it says about aerials! This device is only going to work on a good aerial so, if your TV has problems, so will this device. I'm running Windows 7 and I did not need the supplied drivers as W7 found them automatically from the Internet and installed the divice perfectly. After installing the TotalMedia software, it took a while to tune as the tuning is very slow compared to a STB but, once done, it worked perfectly. Use the LCN option when tuning and then sort by LCN to give the same channel numbers as a STB or TV would.
Quality is excellent, even on my 1920 x 1024 monitor so I'm extremely pleased and would recommend this product to anybody. Please note: Don't buy this or any other similar device if you want TV on the move. Throw the supplied aerial away!
